The Sweetheart Sweater Quilt

Sweetheart Sweater Quilt is available here!

Back in April 2021, I was massively pregnant with our third child. We are one of those couples that don’t find out the gender of our children until they are born, so I had boxes and boxes full of both boy’s and girl’s clothes in storage waiting for baby’s arrival. Once baby boy arrived, I got all the boxes out of storage and invited some friends that were expecting girls to take whatever girl clothes they wanted before donating the rest. Full of post pregnancy hormones and emotions, I went through all my daughters baby clothes. That was when I found the most darling Valentine’s outfit I had ever seen.

Be still my heart. That is my sweet little girl at 7 months old (back in 2017) wearing this darling outfit that inspired the Sweetheart Sweater quilt. It’s plain to see where the design came from. I honestly wish I could find this outfit in my size. I would rock those knitted pants in a heartbeat. Needless to say, I couldn’t part with this outfit. It now lives in our crawl space in a special “baby box,” I made for my daughter.

The Sweetheart Sweater Quilt is a beginner friendly quilt pattern that comes together quickly. There is only one size (54.5” x 66.5”), but it is a perfect accent quilt to display on your couch during the Valentine’s Day holiday. I would also give this quilt as a wedding present to a special pair of love birds. Here are the fabric requirements for this pattern:

I had plans of making a second version of the Sweetheart Sweater Quilt, but there are only so many hours in a day, and apparently I need sleep. But here is a mockup of that version. Instead of using different colors for the nine patch, four patch, and diamond rows, I am going to use all black. The hearts are based off the iconic Valentine’s candy, the Conversation Hearts. Now I do have my fabric cut for this version. It’s just a matter of finding the time to get it done. I think I’ll get it done before February 14th though.

My incredible pattern testers both went for a green background for their Sweetheart Sweater Quilts. They are so vibrant and really make those hearts pop.

Mary, @embercraftcompany, made this awesome version using Kona Cotton solids.

(Side note: those hearts are made using Kona Pomagranate which I may have ordered immediately after seeing it.)

Elizabeth, @elizabeth.chambers.421, made this vibrant Sweetheart Sweater Quilt.

That lime green background is so fun with that pale pink nine patch.
