Hexi Galaxy Quilt

The Hexi Galaxy Quilt Pattern is now available in my pattern shop here.

Hexi Galaxy is another one of my quilt patterns which is inspired by the beauty of english paper piecing. I love english paper piecing, but I honestly do not have the patience to hand piece quilts. So, I designed Hexi Galaxy. Its a machine pieced quilt with no Y seams, so even someone who is realtivly new to quilting can make it. I wrote this pattern with three versions, scrappy, fat quarter, and solid. All three versions have a unique look. The Hexi Galaxy pattern is a sister pattern to my English Stars quilt. Hexi Galaxy takes the stars of the English Stars quilt, but it adds a bit more interest by having triangle stars orbiting them. I always imagine the diamond stars as suns and the triangle stars as the planets. Hence, the galaxy.

The first version I made is this scrappy baby quilt. I decided to use blues for the background, whites for the triangle stars, and yellows for the diamond stars. I love how the diamonds pop on this one. Plus, scrappy quilts are always fabulous.

The second version I made is a fat quarter version. I used my coveted Starry fabric from Ruby Star Society. This one looks like confetti to me. I like how the triangle stars and diamond stars look like a color explosion.

The final version I made is the solid version. Because the 4th of July was right around the corner I decided to make it patriotic. I love how that red background is so vibrant and makes the white triangle stars pop. I am also amazed at how the solid version looks so different than the other two versions because you can more clearly see the defined geometric shapes in the background.

There are 4 sizes. Baby, small throw, large throw, and bed. This pattern uses templates (paper or printable templates are included in the pattern), but you can get the acrylic template sets in my shop as well.

My fabulous pattern testers made such gorgeous quilts. Check them out below.

Mary (@embercraftcompany) made this beautiful fat quarter baby size using Moonglow fabric from Ruby Star Society.

Martha (@cooperstreetquilts) made this version which combines solid and fat quarter. She used solid yardage for the Diamond stars and fat quarters for the triangle stars. So good!

Alicia (@wildblooms_quiltco) made this jaw dropping solid version. She used a navy background, white triangle stars, and hot pink diamond stars. Wowza.

Amy (@paintedbundtingstudio) made this super fun and bright fat quarter version using the Jolly Basic collection from Ruby Star Society. And check out that quilting. Man, if that texture doesn’t make you want to snuggle up and read a book with a cup of tea then nothing will.

I absolutely love seeing what you make with my patterns so please share your Hexi Galaxy quilts with me on instagram using the hashtag #HexiGalaxyQuilt
