Ice Cream Social Quilt
Have you ever seen a fabric collection and immediately knew exactly what project needed to be made with it? The moment I laid eyes on Kimberly Kights upcoming Sugar Cone collection, I couldn’t get the idea of an ice cream themed quilt out of my head. I searched for a pattern that I wanted to use, but I couldn’t find one I really liked. So, I made my own pattern and titled it the Ice Cream Social Quilt.
I have been really into sewing curves this year, so I went with a half circle for the ice cream scoop. Never sewn half circles? You shouldn’t be intimidated by them. Take it slow, use a stiletto (I like the By Annies one) to keep the edges of your fabric aligned, adjust your fabric as needed, and try not to tug on the fabric. You can always use some scrap fabric to make a couple practice scoops before diving into the quilt.
Along with the Sugar Cone collection I used Kona Fog as the background fabric, and for the cones I used V&Co Ombre in Honey. I love how the light blue fabric makes the low volumes in this collection shine. I also love how all the sugary sweet prints look like toppings on the ice cream. Who wouldn’t love gummy bears on ice cream?
The Ice Cream Social quilt is layer cake and fat eighth friendly. You can see all the fabric requirements listed below. And watch my YouTube video on how to use the templates to make the most of your fabric here.
Once again, my pattern testers made such amazing quilts. Each one is so different. I love seeing each of their styles come through in their quilts. Check them out and give my fabulous pattern testers some love on Insta.
Mary (@embercraftcompany) made this perfect throw size version using the Birthday bundle from Ruby Star Society by Sarah Watts. Along with Sugar Cone, Birthday is a fabulous fit for this pattern. I also love that charcoal background she used. It’s seriously amazing.
Alicia (@wildblooms_quiltco) made this playful throw size Ice Cream Social quilt using the Art Gallery Fabric’s Wildflower Hill bundle curated by @kinderedquiltco. That pink background is so lovely. I just adore this quilt.
Martha (@cooperstreetquilts) made a baby ice cream social quilt that I cannot wait to see finished. I love these little pink ice creams with the Add It Up fabric as the cones. This is bound to be the most darling quilt ever!
I hope you love the Ice Cream Social quilt as much as me and my kiddos do. Please share your quilts with me on Instagram and don’t forget to use the hashtag #IceCreamSocialQuilt. And, if you haven’t already, join my newsletter below to get the free Charm Chain Stars Quilt pattern.
